ABET Symposium Statement on Coronavirus COVID-19

We are aware of the growing concern regarding the coronavirus COVID-19 and are closely monitoring its development. Our priority is the health and safety of our attendees, volunteers and staff, and we are taking every precaution to ensure a safe environment for the 2020 ABET Symposium.

At this time, the Symposium will take place as planned March 31-April 1 in Nashville, Tennessee, USA.

We have heard from many of our speakers and registrants that they are planning to attend the Symposium, and we appreciate their continued participation. We understand some corporate/institutional policies, travel restrictions and individual circumstances related to the public health risks of the coronavirus COVID-19 may prevent registrants from attending this year’s event. We respect the decisions of those not able to attend, and we look forward to partnering with them in the future.

We are closely monitoring the coronavirus COVID-19 situation, Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommendations and U.S. Government travel restrictions. Should the risk level change, we will follow the CDC recommendations and inform our attendees immediately. Please refer to the CDC website for the most current information.

We are taking precautions to ensure a safe environment for Symposium attendees in response to the global concern related to public health risks of the coronavirus COVID-19.

ABET will work with the hotel to ensure that information and resources are available on site for guests. ABET recommends attendees take the following precautions:

  • – Wash hands frequently with soap and water and increase the use of hand sanitizer.
  • – Become familiar with hotel policies and resources and local medical facilities.
  • – Consider adopting a “no handshake” policy when networking at the event.
  • – Utilize available technologies like the ABET Symposium mobile app, AirDrop or other available services to share contact information instead of exchanging business cards.

Due to U.S. Government Travel Guidelines, we are not accepting registrations from anyone in the following countries at this time, but we hope our partners and colleagues from these locations will be able to join us at next year’s event:

  • – China
  • – South Korea
  • – Japan
  • – Iran
  • – Italy

If you have already registered for the Symposium and your travel plans have changed due to the coronavirus COVID-19, please contact us at comms@abet.org.

The safety of those attending the 2020 ABET Symposium is our highest priority, and we will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates on this site.
