Sustainable development is defined as meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet theirs. Sessions in this focus area demonstrate examples of sustainable development’s three main pillars—social development, economic development and environmental protection—integrating into curricula. Sessions will highlight projects that relate to the NAE Grand Challenges and/or the UN Sustainable Development Goals, as well as projects that are preparing students to combat climate change, improve accessibility and reduce inequality.
