Katia P. Maxwell is an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at Athens State University, Alabama. She received an M.S. degree in computer science from Midwestern State University, Texas. Maxwell is a computer science Ph.D. candidate at the University of Alabama in Huntsville and an ABD in scientific computing at the University of North Dakota; she is also a member of Upsilon Pi Epsilon (UPE). Her research interests include computer security, digital humanities, software engineering, parallel processing and computer science education. She is the lead faculty in the ABET accreditation process, and under her direction, the computer science concentration became ABET-accredited in 2014. Currently, the information technology program is up for accreditation under her leadership, and if approved, will be the second ABET-accredited IT program in the state of Alabama.
Athens State University is an upper-division institution that teaches junior and senior-level courses.
