Lawrence G. Jones, Ph.D., was the 2015-16 ABET President. In 30 years volunteering for ABET, he has served on the Board of Directors, as Chair of the Accreditation Council, and as Chair, Commissioner and Program Evaluator of the Computing Accreditation Commission. Retired as a distinguished principal researcher from the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) of Carnegie Mellon University, Jones led research and customer projects in software architecture and software product lines. Prior to the SEI, he served a career in the U.S. Air Force and was chair of the computer science department at the U.S. Air Force Academy. Jones is an ABET Fellow, a CSAB Fellow, a senior member of ACM and IEEE and a member of the Arkansas Academy of Computing. He holds a doctorate in computer science from Vanderbilt University, and master’s and bachelor’s degrees in industrial engineering from the University of Arkansas.
This session will summarize the Computing Accreditation Commission’s ongoing program criteria initiatives and discuss possible directions for future growth. Current efforts include proposed revisions to the information technology program criteria, the recently proposed associate cybersecurity program criteria and a draft proposal for a new data science program criteria.
