An architect by training, a builder by passion and a teacher at heart, Peter Hilger is faculty director for the University of Minnesota Construction and Facility Management program within the College of Continuing and Professional Studies. Since 1997, his teaching of the principles and practices of construction and architecture has engaged many hundreds of students in architecture, engineering and construction fields. He was awarded the high Morse Distinguished Teacher honor at the university in 2015 and CMAA Educator of the Year in 2017. His accreditation experience includes management of the accreditation process for four cycles at the university and also serving as a Program Evaluator for the Facility Management Accreditation Commission (FMAC) to a variety of programs in the United States and Europe. Instrumental in drafting the outcomes-based accreditation standards as chair of the FMAC, he recently piloted the first web-based Self-Study initiative for both FMAC and ABET accreditation.
Following a successful trial for our facility management re-accreditation, the faculty at the University of Minnesota proposed to use a web-based self study to convert from ACCE to ABET re-accreditation of the Construction Management program.
