Robi Polikar

Professor and Department Head, Rowan University

Robi Polikar received his B.Sc. degree in electronics and communications engineering from Istanbul Technical University in 1993, and his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees, both co-majors in electrical and biomedical engineering, from Iowa State in 1995 and 2000, respectively. He has been with Rowan University since 2001, serving as the Department Head of Electrical and Computer Engineering since 2011. Polikar’s primary research interest is in machine learning, with particular emphasis on incremental learning in nonstationary environments and adversarial machine learning. Polikar teaches upper-level undergraduate and graduate courses in machine learning and strategic writing. He will start serving on the Editorial Board of Neural Networks in 2020 and has also served as an associate editor of IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning Systems. As a department head, as well as a Program Evaluator for ABET, Polikar has experienced the accreditation process from both sides several times and is amazed by the new and innovative ideas, tools and processes he learns with each accreditation experience.
